Feisty Fawn (7.04) and Gusty Gibbon (7.10) Instructions
Beagle is shipped as a part of these releases. Install by running:
$ sudo apt-get install beagle
And you're off and running! Beagle will start automatically the next time you log in, or you can start it by running:
$ beagled
Edgy Eft (6.10) Instructions
Compiling Beagle on Ubuntu 6.10 (Edgy Eft)

Backport
To obtain Beagle 0.2.16 packages for Edgy Eft, add
deb http://beagle-project.org/files/ubuntu/edgy/ ./
Dapper Drake (6.06) Release Instructions
Beagle 0.2.6 is available in the universe Ubuntu repository for the Dapper release.
However, in order to make Beagle start indexing your home directory, you need to disable then re-enable indexing in the Beagle preferences dialog (System->Preferences->Search & Indexing->Indexing tab->Uncheck then re-check the box next to Index my home directory.
Breezy and Hoary Instructions
The Ubuntu Backports Project have backported updated packages for Beagle and Mono to Breezy and Hoary.
Once you've added the appropriate line to your /etc/apt/sources.list file, simply run:
$ sudo apt-get install beagle
to install Beagle and its dependencies.
Once the installation is finished:
- Enable Extended Attributes on your home partition
- Start the Beagle Daemon
- Start searching your data!
